Getting to Taiwan

Welcome to Taiwan!

If you are holding a foreign passport, you will need to complete an arrival card before passing through immigration. Arrival cards should be distributed to all passengers by flight attendants on your flight. Arrival cards are also available in the terminal before reaching immigration.

WINHEC 2019 local host committee will provide staff members to assist you from Taoyuan International Airport on July 27th and July 28th . We will ask you to provide us your travel detail in June / July, direct you to take Airport MRT to Taipei man station, then take Taiwan Railways to Hualien. Once you have arrived at Hualien, local transportation will be arranged.  If you prefer to handle local travel yourself, information below might help!

 

Airports

There are three major international airports, Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA), and Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH). The average flight time from Taiwan to major cities in the Asia-Pacific region is only two-and-a-half hours. A direct flight from the West Coast of the U.S. to Taiwan takes only 12 hours. A direct flight from Aotearoa New Zealand is 10 hours.

Taoyuan International Airport is located in the city of Taoyuan, about 25 miles (40 kilometers) west of central Taipei. The airport is the largest and busiest in Taiwan and is one of the busiest in the world.

If you will be flying into Taiwan from an international point of origin, odds are you will land at Taoyuan Airport. Nearby Taipei Songshan Airport handles most flights originating from Taiwan, China, Japan, and South Korea.

  1. Taoyuan International Airport (TPE)
    The airport website offers comprehensive transportation information including ticket prices from Taoyuan International Airport to Songshan Airport or Taipei Railway Station.
  1. Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA)
    This is another option as its location is in Taipei City. Flight from TSA to Hualien  (about 35 mins. ) is available, on line advance purchase is recommended for as low as NT$ 800 (US$ 27)  one way.
  1. Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH)
    This airport is in southern city/ Just in case this airport comes up.
  2. Hualien Airport (HUN)
    This is a local airport. From Taipei (TSA) airport to Hualine (HUN) takes about an half hour. Discount ticket can be booked online.

 

Taoyuan Airport MRT

Taoyuan Airport MRT shortens the distance between Taipei and Taoyuan with the express service taking only 35 minutes from Taoyuan Airport Terminal 1 to Taipei Main Station and 38 minutes from Terminal 2 to Taipei Main Station. Even the commuter service that stops at all stations takes only 50 minutes. The fast and convenient service is a great choice for international travelers to commute between the airport and Taipei.

Before boarding the MRT, please check if it is a purple express train or a blue commuter train. From Terminal 1, the express train takes 35 minutes to arrive at Taipei Main Station and the commuter train takes 50 minutes.

Free 4G Wi-Fi is available at all stations. Express trains are equipped with wireless charging service and luggage racks to provide passengers a fast, convenient and pleasant ride.

 

Directions to Airport MRT Station

Terminal 1: The escalator south of B1 Food Court leads to A12 Airport Terminal 1 Station.

Terminal 2: The pathway at the side of B2 Food Court leads to A13 Airport Terminal 2 Station.
