Getting to Hualien

Taiwan Taoyuan Airport (TPE)

TPE is the international gateway to Taiwan and most international carriers fly on Taiwan Taoyuan Airport. From TPE you can go to Hualien by the following easy ways:

  • By Shuttle Bus/Airport MRT + Railway

    Take the shuttle bus or Taoyuan Metro to Taipei’s Railway Main Station then take train to Hualian.

    The one-way ticket from TPE to Taipei Railway Main Station is about USD4 (bus) / USD6  (MRT).

    Step1. Taoyuan Airport MRT to Taipei

    Taoyuan Airport MRT shortens the distance between Taipei and Taoyuan with the express service taking only 35 minutes from Taoyuan Airport Terminal 1 to Taipei Main Station and 38 minutes from Terminal 2 to Taipei Main Station. Even the commuter service that stops at all stations takes only 50 minutes. The fast and convenient service is a great choice for international travelers to commute between the airport and Taipei.

    Before boarding the MRT, please check if it is a purple express train or a blue commuter train. From Terminal 1, the express train takes 35 minutes to arrive at Taipei Main Station and the commuter train takes 50 minutes.

    Free 4G Wi-Fi is available at all stations. Express trains are equipped with wireless charging service and luggage racks to provide passengers a fast, convenient and pleasant ride.

    Directions to Airport MRT Station

    Terminal 1: The escalator south of B1 Food Court leads to A12 Airport Terminal 1 Station.
    Terminal 2: The pathway at the side of B2 Food Court leads to A13 Airport Terminal 2 Station.

    Step2. By Taiwan Railway to Hualien

    It takes approx. 2.5-3 hrs hours to take the train from Taipei Railway Main Station to Hualian Station by the fast express (or any type local train) at the cost around USD 12 to USD 15. For more details please check the Taiwan Railway timetable.

  • By Uber/Taxi + Railway

    Step1. Take a Taxi

    While it is very easy and affordable by metro or bus to get around in Taipei, Uber or Taxi from TPE to Taiwan / Taipei Railway Main Station (price between USD30 – USD60)  or any place in the Greater Taipei area also available.

    Step2. By Taiwan Railway to Hualien

    It takes approx. 2.5-3 hrs hours to take the train from Taipei Railway Main Station to Hualian Station by the fast express (or any type local train) at the cost around USD 12 to USD 15. For more details please check the Taiwan Railway timetable.

  • By Shuttle Bus + Airplane

    Take the shuttle bus to Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA), which takes about 50 min and connect on the local flight (35 min) to Hualien Airport (HUN).

  • By Road

    Although it is a long way to go, it is worthy for you to see the beautiful scenes along the Su Hua Highway (route 9) in the car. You’ll take about 5 hours driving from Taipei to Hualien. Be careful to pass the car in front of you only at the safe location.

    Taipei→(1)Taipei-Ilan Freeway: through Hsuehshan Tunnel to Suao(2)North Coastal Highway to Suao(3)Taipei-Ilan Highway to Suao→The Suhua Highway(Provincial Highway 9)→Hualien

Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA)

TSA has direct flight from Tokyo, Seoul and from other major cities in China. TSA daily has two flights to Hualien Airport (HUN), which take about 35min. The one-way ticket is about USD30 to USD50.

  • By Taipei Metro + Railway

    Step1. Taipei Metro to Taipei Main Station

    Taipei Metro is easy go get around from TSA to Taiwan Railway Main Station in Taipei, then take train to Hualien. If you want to stay a few days in Taipei, Metro is very easy and friendly for international travelers.

Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH)

    KMRT is easy go get around from KHH to Taiwan Railway Main Station in Kaohsiung, then take train to Hualien. If you want to stay a few days in Kaohsiung, Metro is very easy and friendly for international travelers.

    Step2. By Taiwan Railway to Hualien
